What events can we hold and/or be a part of? How can we celebrate the world and life? What can we do to make a difference and enjoy ourselves at the same time?
There are lots of events locally, nationally and globally that the MSC community can participate in. We have events that can take place yearly or regularly such as the production, music performances, MSC's Got Talent, sports days, showcases to exhibit our learning achievements, etc. Our school community is also active in being a part of events such as Jeans for Genes Day, Harmony Day, Anti-bullying initiatives and much more. Our success in having events take place at the school is due to leadership and organisation that is driven by students taking on the responsibility to be a part of the events as well as actually run many of them.
A goal each year for MSC VCAL classes is to work to organise a trivia event to raise funds for a project within our school and a cause close to our hearts. Participation in helping a House Tribe trivia night to run is one of your VCAL Literacy compulsory tasks. It will take teamwork, organisation and co-operation to make this event happen. Be ready to bring your talents, ideas and creativity to help set up the night and make it a memorable one.
If you wish to run an independent event as part of your VCAL course speak to your teachers and school and house leaders well ahead of time to put in place an action plan to make it happen. You have the power to be able to do many of the things you want to do but you need to make an effort and follow the right processes to set things up. We can't expect to just throw up an idea and think it will happen the next day or next week.
The MSC community is committed to fostering student initiative and events ideas wherever possible, so involve yourself in the conversation as it takes having the dream for it to ever have the possibility of maybe coming true.
House Tribes Trivia:
To pull off a big event like this takes lots of teamwork and organisation. Permission will need to be sought from the school principal and council for an event such as this, with a fundraising aspect to it, to run. Once permission is in place planning and setting up to deliver is the next stage.
How does a team plan an event? How does a team put on a trivia night?
We will need to:
- Organise a date and book a venue
- Decide on food options and whether or not a license is needed
- Decide who will be a main MC on the night
- Set up to know all technology and equipment required on the night is right and ready to go
- Develop a running sheet for the event that considers timing of activities
- Have activities prepared well before the event and the delivery of them thought through and practiced
- Decide on costing/entry price/donate activities
- Is a security guard required? Maybe not if the event takes place on school grounds?
- Publicity. How will the event be promoted.
- Etc
